What the 15-page merit list actually contains
The PDF has 15 pages. It lists the 7-digit roll numbers of candidates declared qualified for the Main Exam, in two separate lists. Of the 5,780 names, 225 are from the Scheduled Area (roll numbers 3604297 to 3654376) and 5,555 are from the Non-Scheduled Area (roll numbers 3601610 to 3654402).
Along with the roll numbers, the PDF gives category-wise cut-off marks for both areas, the cut-off for horizontal reservation, and a note on 178 candidates declared ineligible. It carries the signature of the RPSC Secretary, Ashutosh Gupta.
Read the word "provisionally" carefully. These candidates are qualified for now, not for good. RPSC will cancel the candidature of any qualified candidate, at any stage, who does not meet the eligibility conditions in the advertisement and rules. If you have qualified, reread the eligibility conditions in the advertisement once more before you start preparing for the next stage.
Where the cut-offs landed
The General (UR) cut-off for the Non-Scheduled Area is 63.97 marks, the highest in this result. For the Scheduled Area, the General cut-off is 47.14 marks. The gap between the two is 16.83 marks.
Category (General sub-category) | Non-Scheduled Area | Scheduled Area |
UR | 63.97 | 47.14 |
EWS | 37.37 | Not listed |
OBC | 38.38 | Not listed |
SC | 34.34 | 24.58 |
ST | 29.29 | 0.34 |
MBC | 18.18 | Not listed |
Some cut-offs in the Non-Scheduled Area are below zero. In the widow sub-category, UR is -2.36, EWS is -3.70 and OBC is -5.39. The source ties this to negative marking in the paper. A score can fall under zero when wrong answers cost marks, so accuracy counts as much as the number of questions attempted. Any Mock Test you take for the APO Exam should be checked for wrong answers first and for unattempted questions second.
Reading the remarks column
You will see the note "WD N.A., DV against WD" in several rows. It means no eligible widow candidate was available, so the widow seats were counted for divorcee candidates. The PDF does not show a separate widow cut-off in those categories.
Horizontal reservation
In the Non-Scheduled Area, the Ex-Serviceman cut-off is 5.05 for UR. It is not available for SC and ST. For OBC, MBC and EWS, the cut-off is already available in the respective category. For Persons with Disabilities (PH), the cut-offs are:
• Blind / Low Vision: 0.00
• Hard of Hearing: 9.43, and 26.60 for other PH candidates who qualified due to backlog posts
• Locomotor disabilities (the full group of sub-types in the PDF): 34.01
• S.L.D. / Multiple Disabilities: 1.68, and 26.26 for other PH candidates who qualified due to backlog posts
In the Scheduled Area, the ST Widow cut-off is 9.76, and no cut-off is available for Ex-Serviceman ST.
Why 178 candidates were declared ineligible
RPSC has declared 178 candidates ineligible for the APO Prelims. They left more than 10% of the questions blank. For those questions, they did not fill any of the 5 options on the OMR sheet (the machine-read answer sheet).
This rule sits in Point 5 of the special instructions for filling the OMR sheet, in the detailed advertisement dated 27 May 2026. The roll numbers of these 178 candidates are being released separately on the RPSC website.
The lesson is simple. A candidate can be knocked out of the process without any score being counted. Before your next attempt at any state exam, read the OMR instructions in the advertisement line by line, and practise on OMR sheets in your mock papers.
After the result: what the next stage looks like
The selection process has four stages: Preliminary Exam (completed), Main Exam, Interview, and Document Verification. The Main Exam date has not been announced yet. RPSC will publish the schedule on its website, so check it regularly.
One point should shape your plan. The Prelims exam is only for screening. Its marks are not counted in the final merit list. A candidate who scraped through at the cut-off and a candidate who scored far above it start the Main Exam on equal footing.
That makes the weeks before the schedule comes out valuable. Use them to revise from reliable Judiciary Notes and Judiciary Study Material, solve APO Exam PYQ (previous year questions), and build writing practice through regular tests.
