Delhi APP and CBI APP Exam: Date and Syllabus Out, 140 Delhi Seats on the Table

Date Published

One hundred and forty Assistant Public Prosecutor posts in Delhi. Five in the CBI. Five more in Puducherry. All of them will be filled through a single two-hour paper on one Saturday afternoon.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has now issued an addendum that fixes the date, the scheme and the syllabus of this Combined Recruitment Test. If you are preparing for the Delhi APP Exam, the CBI APP Exam or any other prosecutor post in this notice, this is the document your next ten weeks should be built around.

This blog explains what the addendum says, post by post and subject by subject, and how to read it as an exam candidate.

What the addendum announces

The Commission will hold an offline, pen and paper Combined Recruitment Test (RT) to shortlist candidates for 16 different posts. Only candidates shortlisted in the RT, and who meet every eligibility condition of the post, will be called for the interview.

So the RT is the gate. Without clearing it, there is no interview. Here are the core facts in one place.

Delhi APP Exam: 140 vacancies in the Directorate of Prosecution

The Delhi post is Assistant Public Prosecutor in the Directorate of Prosecution, Home Department, Government of NCT of Delhi. The advertisement is Advt. No. 11/2026, Vacancy No. 26091106212.

This is the biggest single post in the notice, ahead of even the 100 Examiner of Trade Marks & Geographical Indications posts. The category-wise break-up is below.

CBI APP Exam: five seats, same paper

The CBI post is Assistant Public Prosecutor in the Central Bureau of Investigation, Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. The advertisement is Advt. No. 06/2026, Vacancy No. 26060658213.

Only five seats are open: UR 3, OBC 1 and SC 1, with PwBD 1 also listed. With so few seats, the cut-off will depend on how sharp the paper is. A candidate who targets both Delhi and CBI sits the same test, so one preparation plan covers both.

Notice that the syllabus includes the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946. A CBI aspirant should not leave this Act for the last week.

The same test also covers five Assistant Public Prosecutor posts in the Directorate of Prosecution, Chief Secretariat, Home Department, Government of Puducherry (UR 4, OBC 1, PwBD 1; Advt. No. 06/2026, Vacancy No. 26060680213).

All 16 posts covered by this one test

The addendum is a combined notice, so the same paper decides several recruitments. The vacancies across all 16 posts add up to 335.

How the paper is built

The scheme is short but every line of it affects how you should practise.

•        Two hours, equal marks. Every question is worth the same, so a hard question gets no extra reward. Do not sink five minutes into one.

•        Objective, multiple choice, English only. Read bare acts in English and get used to the exact wording of sections.

•        One-third penalty for a wrong answer. If a question carries one mark, a wrong answer costs one-third of a mark. A question left blank costs nothing.

That last point changes your strategy. Guessing blindly loses marks over a full paper. Guessing after you have removed two options is a different matter. The only way to learn where your own line sits is to attempt timed Mock Tests and compare your marked and unmarked answers.

The 15 laws you must cover

The syllabus is a list of statutes, not broad subjects. That is good news, because it means the paper is bounded by bare acts.

1.     The Constitution of India

2.     The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023

3.     The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023

4.     The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023

5.     The Information Technology Act, 2000

6.     The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988

7.     The Companies Act, 2013

8.     The Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003

9.     Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002

10.  The Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946

11.  The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986

12.  The Competition Act, 2002

13.  The Trade Marks Act, 1999

14.  The Indian Contract Act, 1872

15.  The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999

Three things stand out. First, the criminal law trio (BNS, BSA and BNSS) is named in its 2023 form, so your Judiciary Notes and Judiciary Study Material must be from the new codes. Second, the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003, the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 and the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946 sit together as the investigation and anti-corruption block. Third, several entries such as the Trade Marks Act, the Geographical Indications Act and the Competition Act are likely there because one paper serves all 16 posts, not only the prosecutor posts.

A sensible method is to finish the three criminal codes and the Constitution first, since the other statutes build on them, then move to the special statutes one by one. Solve PYQ of earlier prosecutor and APO papers after each Act to see how questions are framed from bare provisions.

After the paper: interview cut-offs and weightage

The RT and the interview carry a 75:25 weightage for candidates who are shortlisted in the RT and qualify for the interview. The RT therefore decides three-fourths of your final result. The standard of suitability for the interview is fixed as follows.

Centres, admit card and the ten weeks left

The test will be held at 15 centres: Ahmedabad (01), Bhopal (04), Chennai (12), Delhi (08), Dispur/Guwahati (09), Jaipur (11), Jammu (34), Kochi (24), Kolkata (06), Lucknow (26), Mumbai (05), Nagpur (13), Ranchi (41), Vishakhapatnam (51) and Port Blair (37). No request for a change of test centre will be entertained, so choose with care when you apply.

E-admit cards will be released three weeks before the test. Counting back from 09.01.2027, that points to around 19 December 2026.

From today, 28 October, about ten weeks remain. Spend the first five on the Constitution and the three criminal codes. Use the next three for the special statutes. Keep the last two for full-length Mock Tests under the two-hour limit, with the one-third penalty applied honestly when you score yourself.
